This route runs through the largest gold mine in the entire Roman Empire, which was already frequented by lovers of nature and archeology in the 19th century. Las Médulas were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. They are located in El Bierzo, northwest of the Montes Aquilanos and next to the Sil River Valley, being an impressive landscape unique in Spain formed as a result of gold mining Romans.
Senda de las Valiñas: it is the most used by visitors as it is very simple and leads to points inside “Las Médulas” such as La Fuente de la Tía Viviana, or the caves of La Cuevona and La Encantada. It is a circular itinerary that begins in the town of "Las Médulas" and whose path runs through the interior of one of the exploitation sectors of the mine.
The route allows us to understand the elements of space-time, from the traces of Roman mining activity to the cultivation and maintenance of chestnut trees.

The start of the visit is the bus and car parking at the entrance to the town. Our guides will go with a RED umbrella / jacket with our company name, Leonesa Tours (Guided Tours).
