The convent of San Marcos de León was the headquarters of the Military Order of Santiago, the most important, rich and powerful in Spain. Protected by the kings and inhabited by knights and friars, the convent lived for centuries a great splendor of which a unique and unrepeatable building is a reflection that awaits to be discovered.
Our local guide is a great connoisseur of this monument and will help us immerse ourselves in the glorious past of one of the most important monuments in the city of León.
Throughout the visit, we will discover not only the rich history that the walls of this building enclose, but we will also get to know first-hand its complex construction process, the rich iconography and symbolism that its spectacular facade shows, in addition to meet some of the most important people who were related to this convent. Walk through the same rooms that Fernando el Católico, Quevedo or Arias Montano did, among others. We will end with the entrance to the Museum of León, which houses this building, where we will see several inscriptions, tombstones and tombs of Roman or medieval origin mainly; the old chapter house, one of the largest spaces in the convent; the spectacular cloister, a space conceived with a double function, and the Treasury Room, where several highly valuable pictorial pieces belonging to the San Marcos convent are preserved.
